The following is a short list of places to go to for supplies for ikon painting:
Pandora Ikon Panels
Wonderfully crafted ikon panels in birch. Expensive but the very best quality. Custom sizes are available. Less expensive plain wood panels also available. Pandora also produces ikon shelves and kiots.
Sinopia
Wide variety of pigments, gilding supplies, true gesso, and brushes from a reliable store in San Francisco.
Iconofile Pigments
Smaller collection of pigments. Many of these pigments are the historical pigments used in Russian ikon painting. Some colors can only be found here and are a must for the ikonographer. Iconophile also carries gilding supplies.
Kama Pigments
Kama Pigments is an artist owned business whose goal is to offer artists, decorators and restorers the best selection of materials. They have a large choice of raw materials for those who are already involved in the "home manufacture" of their paints & mediums as well as information for those who would like to learn to do it
Kremer Pigments
Includes an online catalog so you order online or from their New York store. The site is not very user friendly, but well-worth checking into.
Yahoo Group - Society of Gilders
An important source for help in gilding.
Egg Tempera Forum
Excellent forum to ask questions about and learn the egg tempera technique.
Ikon Panels from Russia
Order ikon panels from Russia at lower pricess. I have not oreedred from them before. The wait and shipping costs make make the prices the same as Pandora.
